The Youngsville Police Department has issued a warning about phone scams they said are being reported in the area.
Callers identify themselves as a police officer, and claim that there’s a warrant for the victim’s arrest, according to a press release from YPD. The caller will give instructions on obtaining a prepaid Visa or PayPal card to clear the charges.
Anyone who receives such a phone call is advised to obtain as much information as possible from the caller, including a callback number, and to contact local law enforcement before completing any transactions. YPD also advises to never give out any personal information over the phone.
