Two Iowa teens were killed Saturday night in a traffic crash in Lake Charles. According to police, deputies arrived at the scene and discovered that a collision had occurred between a pickup truck and an SUV and that both vehicles were overturned in a nearby pasture.
Police say evidence at the scene indicate the pickup truck was heading westbound on Red Davis McCollister Rd. and the SUV was heading southbound on Southpark Drive when the truck failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection, colliding into the SUV.
15 year old Caleb Broussard, of Iowa, a passenger in the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger, 18 year old Robert A. Pyle, also of Iowa, died later at a local hospital.
Police say another passenger and the driver of the truck were transported to a local hospital. Both the driver and the passenger of the SUV were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The passenger was treated and released.
Authorities say the investigation is continuing and charges may be filed pending the outcome of the investigation. Although impairment is not suspected at this time, in accordance with Louisiana state law, standard toxicology testing was performed on both drivers.
