Louisiana State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle, fatal hit-and-run crash on the I-10 West Pearl River bridge near the state line. The accident involved an 18-wheeler that broke through the guard rail and went into the water.
Eastbound lanes of I-10 near the Mississippi state line have reopened, but delays remain very heavy after an 18-wheeler plunged into the Pearl River late Tuesday night.
Westbound lanes of I-10 remain closed at Stennis. Alternate routes include I-59 and US 90. Eastbound travelers can take US 90, and westbound travelers can take Exit 607.
Traffic is expected to be impacted on I-10 at the state line for several hours in both directions.
Rescue and recovery crews are working to investigate the crash and clear the roadway. Rescue divers continue to search for the driver in the 18-wheeler that went into the water, according to state police.
Highway officials say both directions will have delays or closures for hours today due to significant damage to the bridge itself.
