Iberia Bank robbed at gunpoint in New Iberia

Tellers at an Iberia parish bank were having a normal day at work when an armed robber changed the course of their day.

The suspect entered the Iberia Bank in New Iberia on West St. Peter Street around 9:30 Thursday morning, he pulled out a gun and demanded money from one of the tellers.

Authorities say the suspect wore sunglasses, a hooded navy sweatshirt, and blue pants. “He made off with an undisclosed amount of money. Left the bank on foot and fled in and unknown direction, ” says Major Ryan Turner with Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and detectives canvassed the area, but their searches turned up nothing.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video, leaving behind an identifiable image that detectives and the media have already spread all over the Internet.  “We’re hoping that someone may be able to identify (him) or give us some information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect” added Major Turner.

None of the bank employees were physically harmed in the robbery. The investigation is ongoing, if you recognize the suspect in the surveillance images contacted the Iberia Parish sheriffs office at 337-369-3711.
