Police have arrested one of the men they say robbed two victims and left one in critical condition with a gunshot wound at an apartment complex Tuesday night.
Police arrested Joseph Freeman Wednesday night. The 17-year-old was charged with attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery.
Detectives issued warrants for Freeman and Denzel Jones, 20, of Carencro, for armed robbery. Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a press release that police responded to reports of an armed robbery at an apartment complex on the 100 block of South Beadle Rd.
According to officers, the victims were walking in the parking lot of the complex when the two suspects approached them. The first victim was forced to the ground at gunpoint, and the suspects stole the victim’s shoes, jewelry, and cash. During the robbery of the second victim, one of the suspects allegedly shot the victim three times and then fled the area.
The second victim was transported to an area hospital and remains in critical condition. The first victim received minor injuries.
Freeman was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a $400,000 bond.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jones is encouraged to call LPD or Crime Stoppers at 337-232-TIPS.
