Coroner releases identity of man found dead in New Iberia

The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the man who was found dead on Saturday.

Gifford Sarvaia, the chief investigator with the coroner’s office, said the man is Terry Delahoussaye, 62, of New Iberia, was discovered inside of a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head.

It was just before 7 a.m. on December 5, 2015, when Iberia Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a man slumped over in his vehicle. It happened in the 300 block of Field Street in New Iberia.

When deputies got to the scene, they found Delahoussaye dead from a gunshot to the head.

“All I can tell you about Terry is that Terry had a big heart,” said Marlon Lewis, a close friend of the Delahoussaye family and a lifelong resident of New Iberia. Lewis has no idea as to why someone would harm his friend Terry, who just celebrated his 62nd birthday on December 4, 2015. 47E9DB57EC2B4B4AB1051A56D65D886C

“You’ll never meet a person with a heart so big. Terry touched the lives of many people in Iberia Parish” Lewis told KLFY’s Dalfred Jones.

As he mourns the loss of his friend, Lewis explained violence has crept into a once peaceful neighborhood, “We are living in some tough times right now where people don’t have any compassion or love for their neighbor, or their fellow man.”

As the investigation continues, detectives are asking anyone with information about what may have happened to contact the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Funeral services for Terry Delahoussaye will be at 11 a.m. on December 11, 2015, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in New Iberia.
