Funeral services announced for girl killed by alleged drunk driver

Funeral arrangements have been set for a 9 year old girl killed in an alleged drunk driving crash.

Ahniiya Martinez died Tuesday night while a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by a woman who police say was driving drunk and crossed the center line, slamming into an oncoming vehicle in which Martinez was a passenger.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night in the 700 block of East Bridge Street in Breaux Bridge. Family members say young Ahniiya suffered from a disease called “holoprosencephaly.”

She is survived by her father Roderick Martinez, mother Tawana Alexander, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

The funeral service will be Monday, December 14, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 10 a.m. at the Syrie Funeral Home.

The driver of the vehicle, 35 year old Leah Kilchrist, of Breaux Bridge, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring, driving left of center, and no driver’s license on person after consulting with the St. Martin Parish district attorney.
