AUSTIN (KXAN) — Some children who might need a little extra encouragement during the holidays got a special gift Wednesday.
Children battling cancer and their families came out for the Holiday Heroes celebration at the Keller Williams offices on South MoPac Expressway.
They each took home gifts and got to enjoy a day of arts & crafts and refreshments. Santa even stopped by for a little bit.
Nineteen families, including 80 kids, were given gifts.
Larissa Linton, co-founder and executive director of Heroes for Children, says, “A lot of times with a cancer diagnosis, it creates a big financial strain on the families and purchasing gifts on the holidays for the kids becomes really difficult and a lot of them aren’t able to do what they’re used to doing.”
Throughout the rest of the year, the organization putting on Wednesday night’s event, Heroes for Children, raises money to help pay families’ mortgages, rent, utility bills and transportation costs.
