LEBANON, Ind (WISH) – A local veterinary group is nursing a dog that they say is the luckiest animal alive.

On Wednesday, Community Pet Healthcare marketing director, Megan Cantrell, told 24-Hour News 8 how the community has rallied behind the dog.

“We’ve had treats, and blankets, and toys, and beds, and everything to make her feel like she’s a princess,” Cantrell said.

The pick-me-up Cantrell said is what the dog needs after what it’s been through.

“She was in a lot of pain,” Cantrell said. “She was scared. You could see it in her eyes that she wasn’t sure what was going on. Her leg was hurting her a lot.”

Law enforcement learned about the dog Monday afternoon when someone was coming off an Interstate-65 exit in Lebanon, and called 911.

“I just saw a guy drop off a dog, and now I don’t see where the dog went. And um, he had a collar on and they just left him on the side of the road,” the 911 caller said.

A second call came into police about 30 minutes later as someone was going down I-65 and noticed something fall from a bridge.

“I’m southbound on 65, and I just, well a couple minutes ago, I just went under Hall Baker, and a dog fell down off of the overpass onto the right shoulder of the southbound lane,” the 911 caller said.

She suffered fractures that will require surgery. Despite the pain, her infectious personality has come out.

She was found with no name tag, or chip, so she’s been dubbed, “Sweet Shelby.” But don’t let the name fool you.

“She’s one strong little girl, for sure,” Cantrell said.

The clinic says the dog will undergo surgery tomorrow. A procedure they say that’ll cost $2,000. If you’d like to help, click here.

As for who may have left her on the road, witnesses said it was someone in a grey truck.
