President Obama is starting off the new year talking about controversial executive actions for gun control.
His specific plan hasn’t been revealed yet, but will likely include expanded background checks.
The president is focusing on small gun dealers, including online sellers and vendors at gun shows.
“You’re always going to have to deal with that underworld element of the whole situation,” said Mark LeBlanc.
Mark LeBlanc, Director of Operations at Barney’s Police Supplies, says expanded background checks won’t solve the gun violence problem.
“Evil people intent on doing very evil things never walk in here and conduct a lawful transaction in order to do that,”” said LeBlanc.
Obama’s decision to move forward comes after several terrorist attacks in 2015, with the most recent in San Bernardino, California that left 14 people dead.
“It’s not going to prevent every mass shooting, it’s not going to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, but it will potentially save lives,”” said President Obama.
LeBlanc says he hopes the President takes time to review every possible outcome from this decision before moving forward.
“The wolves knew that the sheep were there and that the sheep dog is on vacation, nowhere in the area and he’s free to prey on them,”” said LeBlanc.
President Obama will reveal more details on his plan later this week.
