Ossun Elementary School will be closed to students Tuesday to allow workers to remove mildew from the cafeteria.
Students and staff returned to school Monday after the two-week holiday break. That’s when staff discovered that moisture had formed in the cafeteria, causing mildew to grow on some surfaces and ceiling tiles, said Mona Bernard, spokeswoman for the Lafayette Parish School System.
“We are closing Ossun ES tomorrow to allow school district staff ample time to finish changing the ceiling times in the cafeteria and to inspect the surfaces to make sure they have been completely cleaned,” Bernard said in an email. “No students were allowed in the cafeteria today out of an abundance of caution.”
Some Ossun staff will be required to report to work on Tuesday, including administrative staff, custodial staff, cafeteria staff and clerical staff.
All other Lafayette Parish schools will be open for class as normal on Tuesday.
