A 19-year-old student is now in jail after allegedly bringing a loaded handgun onto the campus of the W.D. Smith Career Center, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

Police officers responded to the school around 12:35 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a possible gun on campus.

Sgt. Kyle Soriez said officers arrested Nathan J. Bob, of Lafayette, after finding him in possession of a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol inside of a classroom.

The pistol and ammunition were seized by police as evidence. Bob was charged with Possession of a Firearm in a School Zone and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
