The UL women’s basketball team is off to one of the best starts in school history. No Ragin’ Cajun team has ever been 7-1 in conference play.

Coach Garry Brodhead’s program is off to a 14-3 start and in the top 100 RPI for the first time in his five seasons.

This promising season, however, suddenly encountered a huge obstacle Tuesday morning when Brodhead informed his team that junior point guard Jaylyn Gordon has been suspended indefinitely from the squad for a violation of team rules.

Gordon was averaging a team high 16.3 points in Sun Belt Conference play.

Brodhead said it’s too early to know if Gordon will play again this season for the Cajuns.

“It wasn’t good today at practice (when informed team),” Brodhead said. “They felt let down. But we have four guards who can fill in. I think they’ll see this as an opportunity. They practiced hard today.”

The four guards that could see more playing time include Taylor Washington, Sylvana Okde, Jodi Quinn and Gabby Harrington, as well as freshman Jordan Arceneaux who has played both guard and forward at different times this season.

“I still think we have a great team,” Brodhead said. “I think we can make the adjustments.”
