The Winn-Dixie store on Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Lafayette is closing on March 9, 2016.
It’s corporate office, Southeastern Grocers says the decision was not made lightly and the store’s employees have been made aware of the closure.
According to Southeastern Grocers, the closing date for the Winn-Dixie is March 9.
“Until the store closes, we will work hard to continue delivering the great service and value our customers have come to expect,” explains Southeaster Grocers in a statement.
The President and CEO of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority doesn’t tie the closure of Winn-Dixie to a result of the economy in Lafayette.
“The retails sales dropped in the City of Lafayette has not been great enough to cause the closure of Winn-Dixie,” Gregg Gouthreaux, of LEDA, told KLFY’s Renee Allen.
Gouthreaux explains that in the past couple of years the Winn-Dixie chain has been shutting down locations throughout the U.S.
“Winn-Dixie closed down over twenty stores in the United States including Louisiana in 2014. So this is most assuredly a continuation of that effort to re-organize and consolidate,” adds Gouthreaux.
“There are approximately 61 associates at this location and we are in the process of placing them at nearby stores,” explains Southeastern Grocers.
