Two teenagers from DeQuincy, La. died Sunday morning after a head-on crash in Calcasieu Parish.
According to State Police, at 10:32 a.m., troopers responded to a four-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 27 north of Route 66.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that 18-year-old Charlee Smith of DeQuincy was traveling north on LA 27, and passed another northbound vehicle in a curve and in a no passing zone.
Police say at that point she struck the side of a southbound utility trailer that was being towed, and then struck an oncoming vehicle being driven by 17-year-old Lauren Marie Leblanc of DeQuincy.
Both Smith and Leblanc were pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness reported to police that Smith was speeding and driving aggressively prior to the crash.
A fourth vehicle was damaged by debris immediately after the crash.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
