OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – A campaign worker for former state senator Elbert Guillory has been murdered in North Carolina.
Police said Giovanni Gambino was shot and killed Monday night in a triple homicide in Alexis, N.C. Gambino’s wife, Crystal, is charged with first degree murder.
Giovanni Gambino and two other adults were found shot to death inside his home. News 10 talked to Elbert Guillory late Tuesday night. Guillory is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Louisiana’s fourth district. He said Gambino had been his campaign associate for about three months.
On Tuesday night, Guillory tweeted, “Today our hearts are heavy. Once again, domestic violence has reared its ugly head. This time domestic violence has taken our friend and campaign assistant, Giovanni Gambino. “Gio” was shot by his wife Monday night. We are hurt by this tragic loss of our friend and co-worker.”
Guillory told News 10 he was shocked to hear the news and says this has motivated him to take a stronger look at domestic violence. Guillory said Gambino had been helping him in Louisiana and recently went back to North Carolina.
Guillory said, “Gio was a good friend and had a great personality. He was very outgoing with his New York accent. He was fun to be around and really enjoyed our Southwest Louisiana food.”
