LOS ANGELES (CBS NEWS) – A knife that was found buried on O.J. Simpson’s property will undergo a series of tests for DNA evidence, reports CBS Los Angeles.
The buck knife was apparently discovered by a construction worker years ago, who turned it over to a retired police officer who was working security for a movie set across the street from Simpson’s Rockingham home, Officer Andy Neiman told KNX 1070. TMZ first reported the knife’s discovery and subsequent testing.

The retired officer held on to the knife for years, only turning it over to the LAPD in January.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s elite Robbery Homicide Division is investigating the knife, according to The Los Angeles Times. The paper reports that the investigation is in its early stages.

Police have long searched for the weapon used to kill Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in 1994.
Simpson was charged in their murders, but found not guilty on Oct. 3, 1995.

Simpson is currently serving a prison sentence for his role in a 2007 robbery of a memorabilia dealer at a Las Vegas hotel.
