One man has died and a woman is headed to the hospital after their car was swept off a flooded Bienville Parish road Wednesday afternoon.
According to Bienville Parish Chief Deputy Randy Price, it happened around 5 p.m. about 1 mile east of LA Hwy 9 and Lucky on LA Hwy 4.
Price says the road was covered with water, and it appears the couple was trying to get home when they attempted to drive through it when the powerful floodwaters swept the vehicle off the roadway and into a creek.
The man is believed to have drowned. The woman was pulled to safety and rushed to Bienville General Hospital. Her current condition is unknown.
Police are still working to notify family members, so no names have been released to the public.
Sheriff John Ballance says the incident on Hwy 4 was just one of 3 rescues that happened around the same time on Wednesday afternoon.
A man swept off the road on LA 793 southwest of Gibsland was rescued from the top of his vehicle after calling 911. The North Bienville Fire District responded and used a rope to pull him to safety. He was not injured.
In another incident on Hwy 80 near Ada around 5 p.m., Ballance says a man drove into high water on a road that had been closed due to flooding. His vehicle was swept into a creek. He was rescued, but is facing a ticket for driving around a barricade.
