2nd UPDATE: Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department have arrested a 15 year old male juvenile of Lafayette in connection with the shooting at the Boys and Girls Club.
The juvenile is being charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile and Gun Free Zone.
The suspect was booked into the Lafayette Parish Juvenile Detention Center. The 17 year old victim remains in Critical Condition. The investigation remains ongoing.
UPDATE: A teenager was shot and wounded outside the Boys and Girls Club Tuesday afternoon in the 100 block of South Washington Street.
Police sealed off a large area after the gunfire and so far would only say that the victim is a 17 year old male who was struck multiple times.
It happenend at 4:40 p.m., after police say two boys were outside playing basketball when an altercation occurred and the suspect fired multiple rounds.
The unidentified victim was transported to an area hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Detectives are attempting to verify the identity of the suspect who fled the area immediately after the shooting.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
ORIGINAL: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Lafayette Police are currently on the scene of a shooting in front of the Boys and Girls Club on Washington Street.
Corporal Paul Mouton said the incident happened when two males got into an altercation and one produced a handgun.
The armed male then shot the other male, who is 17.
Investigators are working to identify a suspect. The victim was taken to a local hospital.
Mouton did not have any information on the victim’s condition.
