BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – House lawmakers overwhelmingly decided to keep in place vetoes from the governor that added about $4 million to Louisiana’s budget hole.

Governor John Bel Edwards issued line-item vetoes for some of the millions of dollars in cuts to state agencies passed in the special session.

Even if the House had decided to override the governor, the Senate would like have blocked them.

Edwards will announce Thursday how the state will fill the rest of this year’s budget shortfall.

“It is not going to be a pleasant exercise, and you’re going to see some agency heads in higher education announcing some very painful cuts,” Edwards said.

The budget is still about $70 million short for the current fiscal year.
