“The whole week is just a busy week.”
Good Friday and Easter makes for a busy weekend for local seafood vendors and D&T Crawfish in Abbeville received 80 thousand pounds this Thursday. Owner Don Benoit says this is the largest amount they have ever purchased.
“There is just more crawfish out there than ever before. In the 20 years I’ve been in business it is the most crawfish I’ve seen before.”
Benoit tells KLFY’s Carly Laing that the week of Easter is one of the busiest weeks of the year.
“We have extra people. My peeling plant will be closed next door, so we will grab some of that staff to come help us. Yes! Everybody and anybody.”
This is Paige Herbert’s first Easter with D&T Crawfish. She says it’s been non-stop business all week long.
“So far it has blown my mind. The phone doesn’t stop ringing, you don’t stop answering questions, you don’t have a chance to sit down.”
Benoit says the crowds got so big in the past they had to hire law enforcement to help get through the day.
“Over the years, we learned that having the presence of a sheriff’s deputy really helps calm the people down.”
Benoit says, so far they have one thousand sacks pre-ordered for Good Friday.
