Louisiana State Fire Marshalls are investigating a deadly house fire which happened at a home in Kaplan.
The fire claimed the life of 61-year-old Doyle Broussard.
Neighbors say the incident happened just before 8 o’clock Wednesday night.
Earl Seaux lives across the street from the victim, he was one of the first to arrive on the scene.
“I went to the house and I saw the fire was rolling underneath the carport and we had fire extinguishers and they used them all up and it just didn’t work.”
Seaux says Broussard was disabled and had a hard time getting around. He says when he saw the blaze, he and the other neighbors assumed Broussard was inside. Causing him to step into action breaking down the door.
He added the firefighters searched the entire house, but couldn’t find Broussard.
“They proceeded to concentrate on where the fire was and they all convened and found him on the floor between the truck and the lawn mower.”
According to Seaux Broussard rode his lawn mower to do small tasks like check the mail and take the trash out.
He says this is a shock to everyone in this small tight knit community.
The fire is still under investigation and an autopsy will be performed on Thursday.
