Crowley funeral home owner accused of felony theft

CROWLEY, La. (KLFY) – The owner of the Wilturner Funeral Home has been accused of felony theft, according to the Crowley Police Department.

Police Chief K.P. Gibson said officers arrested Joseph Wilturner, Jr., 45, on March 30 of felony theft after an investigation that lasted several months.

Gibson explained the arrest stemmed from:

“an investigation into the burial of an individual where monies which were not used for funeral expenses should have been returned to the deceased person’s family but were not.”

The family made numerous requests to get the money back from Wilturner before the investigation began.

Wilturner’s arrest comes over a month after the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office retrieved two bodies from his funeral home.

However, Gibson said this case “does not have any ties” to the coroner’s investigation.
