A Florida man was arrested this evening after leading Troopers on a pursuit in Acadia Parish and Jefferson Davis Parish.

On April 7, 2016, shortly before 6:00 p.m., a Trooper observed a vehicle stopped on the shoulder partially in the right travel lane of I-10 Westbound near the community of Eagan in western Acadia Parish. As the Trooper approached the vehicle he observed the driver, 24-year-old Kevin Dale Briscoe of Jacksonville, Florida, inhaling compressed gas from an electronics duster can. The Trooper attempted to get Briscoe to open his window but Briscoe traveled onto I-10 and proceeded west instead.

The Trooper attempted to pull over Briscoe but he refused to stop. Another Trooper effectively deployed tire spikes at the Acadia / Jefferson Davis Parish line but Briscoe continued west and exited at the LA 26 Jennings exit. Briscoe traveled across LA 26 onto the on-ramp for I-10. Troopers were concerned about the vehicle reentering the Interstate and successfully went around the vehicle and prevented Briscoe from traveling back onto I-10.

Synthetic cannabis as well as drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle. Briscoe was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail. He faces a number of charges in Acadia and Jefferson Davis Parishes including obstruction of a highway of commerce, flight from an officer, possession of Schedule I narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.

The pursuit covered approximately 7 miles. One Jennings Police Officer sustained minor injuries during the apprehension. Two Louisiana State Police vehicles and one Acadia Parish Sheriff’s vehicle were damaged.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jennings Police Department, and Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted.
