LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– 3rd UPDATE: 10:04 p.m. All lanes are open I-10 East at Louisiana Avenue.

2nd UPDATE: 9:49 p.m. The left lane has re-opened, leaving the right lane blocked I-10 East at Louisiana Ave. Congestion has reached N. University Ave

UPDATE: 9:30 p.m. I-10 East is closed at Louisiana Avenue due to vehicle recovery. According to Lafayette Police, congestion is approaching N. University Avenue.

ORIGINAL: Firefighters say they were working on extinguishing a fire from an 18-wheeler on the shoulder on I-10 East at Louisiana Avenue. They are currently still putting out spot fires.

Authorities tell KLFY that all they know at the time is the driver began to smell smoke and pulled over. While pulled over, he attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher, but the fire progressed.

The fire was contained to the tractor.

The right line is blocked on I-10 however traffic is passing through the area in the left lane.

There have been no reports of any injuries and backup from this incident is minimal.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
