NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY)—On April, 26 deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the 900 block of Iberia Street in reference to a barricaded suspect.
Deputies say they were initially called to a residence on the same street to investigate the theft of a dog.
A female advised authorities that her ex-boyfriend identified as Robert Thomassie had taken her dog and brought the dog to his residence also on Iberia Street.
When deputies went to the suspect’s residence, he refused to exit the home and told deputies that he was going to arm himself.
Authorities tell KLFY that the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was activated as a precaution.
After failed attempts to ask Thomassie to voluntarily exit the residence, SWAT entered the residence and apprehended the suspect without incident.
KLFY was told there was no threat to the public.
Thomassie was arrested and charged with theft and criminal trespass. He was then booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
