UPDATE (5:50 a.m.): Officials with Small World Daycare in Carencro have announced that it will be closed Monday.
Randy Bernard, the Academic Specialist for the Lafayette Parish School System says that as a result of heavy rains and flooding in the Carencro area, the following schools will be closed Monday: Carencro Heights Elementary, Live Oak Elementary, Carencro Middle, Carencro High, and Ossun Elementary.
All other Lafayette Parish public schools will be open and these schools are closing because many roads in the Carencro area are under water.
“There are some bus drivers who live in the Carencro area who cannot get out of their driveways, ” Bernard said.
“If a student’s bus does not make its route, the child will be excused for the day and if you cannot drive your child to school, he/she will be excused.”
All employees are to report to work if possible, including the employees at the schools that are closed.
In Acadia Parish, schools will be opened on Monday, however flood impacted students will receive an excused absence.
