LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – An emergency responder’s day can change at any moment. Any call can be a matter of life or death, and it’s that hard work and dedication that is recognized each year at the medic of the year luncheon. This year’s paramedic of the year is Sarah Young.
She said she is honored to have been chosen out of so many talented and dedicated workers.
“It’s very humbling because it was an award that you are nominated by your peers. It’s not something from high up management, it’s something that the people you work in the field with nominates you for, and that’s the biggest honor.”
Young said her job can be trying at times, but at the end of the day, she is proud to call herself a paramedic
“Even on the roughest days where you lose patients, no matter what you do, you made a difference and you did everything you possibly could.”
The EMT the year is Allison Salamoni. She said she always knew she wanted to help others.
“I knew I wanted to be in emergency medicine from being a small child I used to watch rescue 911.”
Salamoni said she is honored to receive this award, but she says the love for her job is the most rewarding.
“I was told in college to choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
