Clay Higgins announces run for Congress

Former St. Landry Parish Public Information Officer Captain Clay Higgins has announced his run for the 3rd Congressional District seat as a Republican.

Higgins’ campaign will focus on putting “people over politics,” he told reporters Wednesday at a press conference.

“Im not running for public office, Im descending into Washington, D.C. as a soldier, as a warrior armed with the constitution.” Higgins said.

It seems like too many in Washington are caught up with scoring partisan political points and no longer to serve “we the people”, he said.

Higgins resigned from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office on February 29, 2016 during an impromptu press conference in front of the St. Landry Parish Courthouse.

His resignation came following a controversial video he made about the “Gremlins” gang.
