Adult male missing after attempting to assist two children in the water near Grand Isle Beach

The Coast Guard and Grand Isle Fire Department are searching for a missing person off the beach near Grand Isle, Tuesday evening.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a call, around 6:35 p.m., reporting an adult male went missing after attempting to assist two children in the water.

The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a Coast Guard Station Grand Isle boatcrew to search for the missing person.

The children were reported to be safe ashore.
