(The Daily Advertiser)–The chairman of the Chitimacha Tribe was arrested Monday on a charge of felony theft.
Louisiana State Police said Chairman O’Neal Darden Jr. turned himself in.
Darden had been named in a complaint made to state police in January. Also named in that complaint were Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel General Manager Anthony Patrone and Chief Financial Officer Montie Spivey.
“The complaint alleged the manipulation of the casino’s employee and payroll databases that resulted in Darden receiving a several thousand dollar annual bonus that he was not entitled to,” state police said in a news release. “The scheme was facilitated by Patrone and Spivey.”
According to state police, Patrone and Spivey instructed the casino’s human resources department to list Darden as an active employee after he was no longer working at the casino. This allowed Darden to receive an annual bonus which he was no longer entitled to.
Patrone and Spivey were arrested in February on charges of felony theft, computer fraud and obstruction of justice.
The case will now go to attorneys for the state for possible prosecution.
