Four new Lafayette Parish principals named

(The Daily Advertiser) – Lafayette Parish Superintendent Donald Aguillard has appointed principals to Green T. Lindon Elementary, Carencro High, Comeaux High and Southside High.

Cheri Fontenot will be the principal of Green T. Lindon.

Mary Qualey will be the principal of Carencro High.

Mary Yvonne Zeno will be the principal of Comeaux High.

Catherine Cassidy will be the principal of Southside High.

Fontenot currently is the principal of James Stephens Montessori School in Ville Platte. Previously, she was a teacher at Sacred Heart Elementary, and director of education at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. She taught for four years at James Stephens as well.

Fontenot has been named Teacher of the Year at James Stephens, and received the Outstanding Community Contribution Award in Ville Platte. Her school was a Top Gains School in 2012 and 2014. She was the Louisiana Elementary Principal of the Year in 2016.

Qualey most recently was acting principal of Carencro High. Before that, she was a curriculum and testing coordinator at North Forsyth High in North Carolina, the Title I coordinator at Simon G. Atkins Academic and Technology High and assistant principal at Carencro High.

Qualey also received the Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction Award.

Zeno has held several positions in Lafayette Parish. She was a teacher and coach of girls’ basketball, track and cross country at Northside High; curriculum coordinator of Carencro Middle; acting principal at Northside High; and assistant principal at Lafayette High.

Zeno was named the 1996 Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year, and has been listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers.

Cassidy has been at Acadiana High for the past 16 years, serving as a health and P.E. teacher, head girls’ basketball coach and assistant principal. She also has taught health and P.E. at Academy of the Sacred Heart, plus business English and P.E. at Iota High.

Cassidy was named one of the state’s physical education teachers of the year, and the District 3-5A Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year.

All four principals will begin their assignments in July.
