PRE- 4th of July Celebrations leads to a fatal shooting near Ville Platte


Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies are investigating a shooting that left one person dead.

According to officials, officers were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery and shooting near the 14000 block of Veteran’s Memorial Highway in Turkey Creek.

Police say its the location of Chapelle’s Corner Grocer.

Deputies and first responders located an adult white male with a gunshot wound to the side of his head. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Two females were also located at the scene.  Authorities say the two females were brought in for an investigative interview.

An initial investigation  revealed that the wounded male subject was attending a pre 4th of July celebration when an altercation occurred between the victim and another male.

Authorities say at some point, the suspect walks up to the victim and fires a handgun at the victim prior to fleeing the scene.

Details of the suspect is still being gathered and not being released at this time, along with the identity of the deceased.
