ROBERT, La. (WWL-TV) –  A Tangipahoa parish woman is lucky to be alive after spending the night in water up to her neck inside of her crashed SUV.

The woman told first responders the wreck happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday night.  The SUV flipped over a bridge railing into a canal on Highway 190 in Robert, between Traylor’s Trail and Gomez Road.

But the scene wasn’t discovered until 7 a.m. Tuesday by an 18-wheeler driver passing by.  When that driver stopped to check out the crash, he discovered the woman still inside, alive.  That’s when firefighters from Tangipahoa’s 8th Ward Volunteer Fire Department, Station 1, stepped in.
