How to keep the house cool in the summer heat

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– Keeping up with your AC maintenance throughout all four seasons is very important and with only a few months left of summer, temperatures are on the rise.

Andre Mouton from Lee’s AC says, “Unfortunately, the bad thing about my job is after I fix it, I don’t get to sit back and enjoy it. I got to move on to the next one.”

Mouton says July and August are their busiest months, when temperatures are practically unbearable.

Some of the biggest issues households face are caused by not checking on the AC unit and changing filters at least once a month.

Mouton says that most people run their air conditioning not realizing they have a problem.

Ac units are outside in the sizzling heat or freezing cold all year long.

Some units are older than others and need more maintenance to run efficiently compared to newer ones and sometimes the AC unit is not even the problem.

Mouton says poor insulation can make a home feel hotter even when the AC is running fine. He says you might have air leaks around the windows, or air leaks coming from the attic, or air leaks from your doors

By sealing any openings, you’ll be keeping the cool air in and the warm humid muggy air out.

Mouton says air balance issues are when one room does not cool compared to the rest of house.

He also says if the whole house feels pretty warm, the unit is not performing where it needs to be performing at.

If you cannot remember the last time you changed your filter or checked for rust on your unit, then it is time to call one of these guys.

In the long run, it is better to catch an issue before it gets worse and costs you more money.
