LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)— The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is saddened to report the loss of one of their deputies, K9 deputy JAXX.
Early Wednesday afternoon the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office laid to rest a valued and trusted member of its K9 enforcement unit.
JAXX was lost to Degenerative Myelopathy, a progressive disease of the spinal cord in older dogs.
According to a spokesperson, JAXX began service with the sheriff’s office on September 12, 2014, and was assigned to Deputy Whitney Rogers Jr.
Deputies say during his time with the office, JAXX assisted with numerous calls for service and provided protection for his handler along with other officers.
JAXX is credited for assisting in the seizure of approximately $40,000 in narcotics, the apprehension of eleven suspects and locating multiple illegal firearms officials say.
