ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY)– A New Orleans man was arrested in St. Landry Parish after a traffic stop led to the seizure of a jar of marijuana, authorities said.
According to a news release, a deputy stopped Joseph J. Bermudez, 20, for traveling 91 mph in a 75 mph zone.
Major Eddie Thibodeaux said during the stop, the deputy smelled the odor of burnt marijuana. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies located a large glass jar containing 15 bags of marijuana hidden behind the spare tire of the vehicle.
Deputies also reported finding in a hidden compartment a .38 caliber revolver.
Bermudez was charged with, speeding (91 in a 75), possession of schedule I (marijuana) with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
His bond was set at $30,250.
