St. Landry Parish Deputies arrest man after undercover narcotics operation

ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY)– A Port Barre man was arrested after undercover agents purchased marijuana from him on two separate occasions, authorities said.

Major Eddie Thibodeaux said On August 8, deputies arrived at Richards home to arrest him and noticed a young juvenile standing at the doorway.

Deputies said the juvenile went inside and Richard appeared at the door asking the officers why they were there. When deputies told Richard he was under arrest, they said he attempted to close the door. Agents entered the home to continue the arrest.

Authorities said when inside they smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana.

According to deputies, Richard admitted to smoking marijuana while two underage juveniles were present.

A news release said the home was searched resulting in marijuana and pills being found. Richards was also found to be in possession of more marijuana on his person.

David Gerald Richard, 34, was charged with:

  • Two counts distribution of schedule I (Marijuana)
  • Two counts of illegal Use of CDS in the presence of a person under 17
  • Possession of schedule III
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
