YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) – It’s back-to-school week for most of Acadiana, which means increased traffic in the morning and afternoon.
The Savoy Road Project in Youngsville also begins this week on August 11. Construction will take place on Savoy Rd. for about 2 miles, from Chemin Metairie Parkway to Decon Rd. Crews will be reconstructing the base of the road and then replacing the top later of asphalt for a smoother drive.
“This road is near the Youngsville Sports Complex, new neighborhoods on Savoy Road and there’s also a new strip center that’s being constructed on Savoy Road. This is an entrance to our community, so one where we want to have our best foot forward,” Youngsville Mayor Ken Ritter said.
Ritter said with the Savoy Road Project beginning the same week as school starts, traffic may be a problem.
“Well of course the timing, there’s never a good time to construct a major road in any city. But it gives me a little bit of a concern, which is why we’re asking motorists to work with us, avoid the area,” Ritter said.
Some moms in the Youngsville area said this road project shouldn’t impact them too much. However, they said they are worried about back-to-school traffic in general.
“We live a little closer into town than we used to so I think this year might be a little easier for us. However, traffic in Lafayette is always busy so we will have to plan ahead for that.” said mother Rachel Stutes.
Ritter said it should take about 3 to 4 weeks for the road project to be completed.
