LAFAYETTE, La. (The Daily Advertiser) – Airbnb hosts throughout South Louisiana are offering their rental spaces free of charge in an effort to assist flood victims in need of temporary housing.

Fees will be waived from Aug. 14 to Sept. 4, the company said.

“In the event of emergencies like this one, our disaster response tool connects local residents who have been displaced and are in need of urgent accommodations with Airbnb hosts who are opening their homes free of charge,” Nick Shapiro, Airbnb director of public relations and communications said on Monday. “We are trying to reach as many residents affected by the flooding as possible, as well as spread the word to Airbnb hosts in the area who are not impacted, so that they can list their home for free and assist in sheltering those in need.”

Airbnb launched its disaster response tool in 2012 after Hurricane Sandy. It is now used worldwide, the company said.
