WALKER, La. (WAFB) The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder and attempted suicide that left an 8-year-old girl dead Sunday morning.
Investigators say that deputies received a call about an aggravated battery in the 28800 Gaylord Road just after 9 a.m.
When deputies arrived at the scene, an 8-year-old female was found with a deep laceration to her throat and several people at the scene restraining the child’s mother, 30-year-old Christine Courtney.
According to deputies, Courtney kept repeating that people were telling her to kill her daughter and herself.
Deputies say Courtney also had lacerations but they believe her injuries were self-inflicted.
Members of the Walker Police Department and the District 4 Fire Department performed CPR on the girl but she was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office.
Courtney was taken to Baton Rouge Hospital where she is currently undergoing surgery for her wounds.
Upon her release, she will be charged with first degree murder.
The incident remains under investigation.
