Today in your Lawn and Garden, we’re talking about the Fall garden. Yes, it’s already that time of the year and John says we need to get ready.
That’s right, its cooling down now, feeling a little better. So its time to put the cabbage plants, broccoli, cauliflower, start planting those things out there. We have the plants at the feed store. A good selection of them. Just remember, you do have to water them. They are a delicate plant when you just plant them. Once you have them in there about 2 weeks, they are okay. But you have to water them daily to make sure because I have to replace a few that I must have missed but all the rest are looking real good. One problem with the cool type vegetables that you plant at this time of year is insects. A lot of times it’s the caterpillars or the loopers that get on there. So we do have an organic product, this right here it’s called Thuricide. Totally organic, you can spray it’ll knock them out great and totally safe. Also your garden, if you’re just getting started, you want to make sure you put your fertilizer in and I recommend the 5-20-20 at this time of the year. You know, it’s great for the root system and all that and later on if you need to side dress with Nitrogen you can go with it. To start with, should’ve started with this first- is you can have your soil tested. You can send this off to LSU, we have the boxes at the feed store, they free. Come get them. They have the samples bags right here, put your soil in there and they’ll tell you exactly what you need for your garden. If you need pot ash, if you need Lime, they’ll tell you
