BOGALUSA, La. (KLFY)— A Florida motorist was killed in a head-on crash while driving on the wrong side of the highway on LA 21 in Bogalusa Louisiana, authorities said.
According to a spokesperson with Louisiana State Police Troop L, Troopers responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash on LA 21 three miles south of Bogalusa.
The crash claimed the life of 25-year-old Daniel Elwood of Tallahassee Florida.
Investigators said based on preliminary evidence, Elwood was driving southbound in the northbound lane of LA 21.
Officials said he was not restrained at the time of the head-on crash. He was pronounced dead on-scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office.
Troopers said the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for minor injuries. His passenger was airlifted from the scene to a local hospital. Troopers said they were both wearing her seatbelt during the time of the crash.
Authorities said impairment is not suspected to have been a factor, Troopers obtained blood samples from both drivers to be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
The crash remains under investigation.
