LAFAYETTE, La. (The Daily Advertiser) – Downtown Lafayette was the recipient of the award of excellence at the International Downtown Association’s 62nd annual conference in Atlanta. Nominated for its Creativity Everywhere program, the organization won an IDA award for the second straight year.
“The Creativity Everywhere program addresses an urgent need for our downtown to physically reflect the creative culture of Acadiana,” said Nathan Norris, CEO of the Downtown Development Authority, in a press release. “Over the last three years, we’ve done just that through meaningful partnerships with local artists to improve our public spaces.
“We are honored to receive the award and look forward to continuing to invest in the district.”
“The Creativity Everywhere project received the IDA Award for conducting innovative best practice work in the industry of urban place management,” said David Downey, IDA president and CEO. “Creativity Everywhere is a shining example of excellent downtown management delivering real value to the city.”
In 2014, Downtown Lafayette was honored with an IDA award for the Downtown Action Plan. The initiative began in late 2013 and has included the Y Lafayette sign, the Make Your Benchmark program (painted benches), murals, metal sculptures on light poles, stained glass artwork in the Rosa Parks building, metal downtown pole banners, Tattooed Walls, portable public art walls and numerous other projects.
This initiative also helped garner the 2014 Cultural District Award from the Louisiana Lieutenant Governor’s Office of Cultural Development for Downtown Lafayette. For more information, visit downtownlafayette.org.
