Acadiana mother continues son’s legacy through scholarship program

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – David Trosclair passed away in 2010.

He was the top student in his class and now every year scholarships are given away in his name

“UL established the David Trosclair Memorial Scholarship in kinesiology to acknowledge his academic achievements and to carry on his legacy,” said his mother Carol Trosclair, “We have a fundraiser each year to raise money for UL kinesiology scholarships. so that a little piece of David lives on through all of these students whose lives he touches.”

45 scholarships are given away each year.

To raise money for them, Carol teams up with local businesses to sell $10 raffle tickets.

The tickets put buyers in a drawing to win a free cruise and have other perks as well.

“If you take that $10 raffle ticket to Todd’s Car Wash any day in September you get his $25 car wash for free,” said Carol, “Or you can take it to Indulge in October and you get free coffee and dessert.”

For the last 6 years, Cherrie LeBlanc has purchased numerous raffle tickets.

Shes a family friend who had known David since he was a young boy.

“If you want to give to something this is a good thing to chose to give to,” said LeBlanc, “Because it does carry on David’s legacy even if you didn’t know him he was a kinesiology student it supports the university and all those students that are coming through now who need extra funds.”

“He was not able to fulfill the entirety of his dreams, his career goals, his aspirations,” said Carol, “But through his scholarships, other students are able to fulfill theirs. So a little piece of David lives on through every recipient of his scholarship.”
