ERATH, La. (KLFY) – Police Chief Gerald Hebert died Sunday afternoon after a battle with cancer, according to Erath Mayor John LeBlanc. Hebert was 59 years old.

Hebert began his tenure on January 1, 2007.

The mayor described the police chief as a man who was highly involved in the community he served.

“He (Hebert) was not only our chief and citizen of Erath, he was our friend,” LeBlanc said.

A private service will be held for Hebert but no further details were provided.
