BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – On Monday, September 19, another big step will be taken in putting the brakes on traffic headaches in the Baton Rouge area.

State leaders are expected to get the formal okay to push forward with a plan to widen a stretch of I-10 between Highland Rd. and Highway 73. This decision comes at the perfect time. This past week was National Truck Driver Awareness Week, and drivers know all too well the traffic trouble plaguing Baton Rouge.

“Our drivers work on our interstate system and they bring everything that we own, everything that we buy and sell and trade, they bring it to us and take it to its destination,” said DOTD secretary Shawn Wilson.

State leaders expect the interstate widening project to cost around $60 million. About $40 million of that will come from re-allocating federal dollars already set aside for other projects.
