LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)—The Opelousas Lighthouse Missions is hosting their annual ‘Hunters for the Hungry’ food drive.

The organization encourages hunters and their families to “clean out” their freezers and donate frozen processed game and fish from the 2015 season.

According to a news release, all donations are tax-deductible and will be used to feed the needy through the Opelousas Lighthouse Mission shelters and programs.

A spokesperson for the organization said last year the event collected over 8,000 pounds of food. The event was able to provide 25,000 meals to the homeless in the greater Lafayette community.

The event will be held on Sunday, October 2, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

According to www.cleanoutyourfreezer.com the 2016 sites include:

  • VILLE PLATTE – New Life Assembly
  • EUNICE – Eunice Fire Department
  • BROUSSARD – Chops Specialty Meats
  • OPELOUSAS – Giles Nissan Opelousas
  • YOUNGSVILLE – First Assembly of God Church (Verot School Rd)
