Ville Platte man dies in weekend crash

EVANGELINE PARISH (KLFY) – A Ville Platte man is dead after a crash over the weekend in Evangeline Parish.

Troopers responded to the crash just after 2:20 a.m. on September 18th on Highway 13 near Gilbert Road.

According to Master Trooper Brooks David, Dustin Vidrine, 31, sustained fatal injuries when a Ford truck being driven southbound on Highway 13 by Arthur Velasquez, 31, of Mamou crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and struck his car.

Velasquez was not wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injuries.

He was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for his injuries.

Vidrine was pronounced dead at the scene.

Master Trooper David tells News 10 that Vidrine was properly restrained at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
