ACADIA PARISH, La. (KLFY)— A 71-year-old Jennings motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle crash, authorities said.
Master Trooper Brooks David said Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a fatal crash on September 21.
The crash occurred on LA 97 near Gotts Cover Road in Acadia Parish.
According to a news release, the crash claimed the life of 71-year-old Darrel Duhon of Jennings, La.
David said the initial investigation revealed that an Iota man was traveling northbound on LA 97 in a 1989 Marmon farm vehicle while towing a flat-bed trailer. While traveling the driver was forced to slow down due to farm equipment occupying the northbound lane of travel.
The victim, Duhon, operating a 2003 Honda Motorcycle heading northbound behind the Marmon farm vehicle struck the left side of the trailer and was ejected off of his motorcycle. Duhon and the motorcycle slid into the southbound lanes and then struck by a 2016 Ford Truck, according to authorities.
A news release stated that Duhon was wearing a DOT approved helmet, but suffered from critical injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later was pronounced dead.
According to David, the two other drivers involved in the crash were both wearing seatbelts and were not injured. Both submitted to a chemical breath test and were found not to be impaired at the time of the accident.
Toxicology samples were taken from Duhon and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
